Rev. Strother, aka Jon the Methodist, was appointed to Jarvis Memorial UMC effective 7/01/2015 after having served six years as the District Superintendent of the Capital District and the Raleigh District of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Jon grew up in Sanford, NC graduating from Sanford Central HS, and went on to study music at Sandhills Community College. Jon graduated from Methodist University with degrees in Religion and Philosophy and a minor in music. He earned a Master's of Divinity from the Duke University Divinity School. Jon married Cathy Thompson on December 13, 2014. Jon's delighted mother-in-law is Catherine Thompson of Greenville. They are the proud parents of five children.
Rev. Rhonda Grant Jordan, Associate Pastor for Mission and Empowerment
Rhonda Grant Jordan initially joined the staff of Jarvis UMC in July of 2016 as the part-time Associate Pastor. She now serves as our full-time Associate Pastor. Rev. Rhonda is a graduate of East Carolina University and has continued her training at Asbury Theological Seminary. Rhonda comes to Jarvis UMC with 20 years experience in ministry. Rhonda has been married to Gaston Jordan Sr. since 1986 and they have one son, Gaston Jordan Jr. Rev. Rhonda enjoys reading, walking the beach and going to the mountains.
Sammy Hudson and Lennie Furlough Youth Director Team
Sammy Hudson (Secondary Team Leader) will offer creativity and visioning for Jarvis Youth Ministries to include the teaching and assisting in Sunday School classes and the oversight of the Praise Team. Lennie Furlough (Point Leader) is the person youth and parents may go to with any questions, suggestions, dreams or challenges relating to Jarvis Memorial's youth program.

Gretta Smith, Director of Jarvis Memorial Preschool
Gretta is active in all aspects of children's programming, serving on Children's Council, helping with Vacation Bible School, and planning many events in our church that have positively affected the lives of our families. Gretta has been the Preschool Director since 2011. She brings a proven work history of management and administration necessary for running a preschool of approximately 122 children and over 20 teachers. Gretta and her husband Johnny have two children, Mary Grace and McGavock.
Rev. Bill Sherman, Pastor Emeritus
A member of the North Carolina Annual Conference since 1956, Bill has served congregations in seven eastern North Carolina communities including New Bern, Havelock and Chapel Hill as well as being the District Superintendent of Rockingham District. Retiring from Centenary UMC in New Bern in 1996, Bill and his wife moved to Cypress Glen in Greenville in 2005, and he began serving Jarvis Church in 2010. Bill and Esther have five children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Steve Cagle, Organist
Steve has been playing the organ at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church since January 2003. A native of Atlanta, Ga., he holds a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Stetson University in DeLand, FL, where he studied organ and harpsichord with Paul Jenkins. He also served as organist for Stetson’s Concert Choir and University Chorus. Steve did graduate work at the University of Michigan, where he studied with Robert Glasgow, earning a Master of Music degree in organ performance in 1981. Prior to moving to North Carolina in November 2001, he served for 20 years as Minister of Music and organist at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He also was a page designer and copy editor at the Ann Arbor (Michigan) News for 20 years, serving as editor of the food/travel sections. Lives in Greenville and is Features Editor at The Daily Reflector.
PAUL FLOWERS, minister of music
He received a Bachelor of Music degree from East Carolina University, where he was assistant conductor of the University Chorale and prepared groups for major choral-orchestral works. He served as president of the ECU chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He has continued his studies by attending workshops and clinics, including the Juilliard School’s “Complete Choral Musician” program in New York City.He received a Bachelor of Music degree from East Carolina University, where he was assistant conductor of the University Chorale and prepared groups for major choral-orchestral works. Sharon Stocks, Church Administrator
Sharon has been on the staff at Jarvis Memorial for over two decades. She joined the Jarvis staff as Church Secretary in April of 1991, and became Church Administrator in January 2008. She and her husband, Van, have two children and four grand-children and are members of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Greenville.
Rebecca (Becky) Blizzard, Administrative Assistant
Becky has been a member of Jarvis Memorial for 12 years. Becky grew up in Fayetteville, NC and graduated from East Carolina University. She and her husband Patrick live in Greenville and have three children: Garrett, Charlie, and Meredith. Becky works on church communications, specifically the website, newsletters and E-blasts in an effort to keep our congregation members informed. Becky also maintains the church database, handles all membership changes, and any other various office duties to help out congregation members and the church staff.
Wendy Blum, Finance Administrator
Wendy comes to Jarvis with a history in banking and accounting. She was responsible for running the training center for First South Bank and served as an accountant for several local small businesses. She is returning to work after 7 years of being at home raising her young family. Wendy has been a Greenville resident for the past 15 years and though her children are school age . . . she has a passion for the Jarvis Preschool family. Wendy and her husband Ryan have two children, Carter and Allie.
Elizabeth Cope, Nursery Supervisor
Elizabeth arranges for Nursery worker coverage for Sunday Mornings and evening programs during the week. Elizabeth is a native of Greenville, NC. She is an active member of Jarvis Church. She has a BA degree in Film Production and is currently working on her Masters. She has a long history of working with children, including programs such as MOPS, Vacation Bible School and Upward Sports. The position of Nursery Supervisor provides a unique opportunity for Elizabeth to utilize her creative art skills to foster the spiritual growth and development of our young children. In her spare time she combines her passion for film with her love for nature and grabs her camera to go hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Bobby Deloatch, Facilities Manager
Bobby was born in Northampton County, attended Wilson Tech and currently lives in Winterville, NC. He works full time during the week and provides 24/7 coverage for emergencies and weekends. Bobby has one son Fabian and one daughter Shaquanta.
Danielle and her family have been members of Jarvis since 2009. She grew up in Fuquay-Varina, NC, but calls Greenville her "home." Her family loves the area and the people of this community. She has a background in Education with more than 20 years of teaching experience. She has taught in the private, public and homeschool sectors of education. She has 5 children ranging in ages from 20 to 6 years old. Her heart is for loving and caring for families, as well as working with families to minister and support those in need.
